Missiles that fly at more than five times the speed of sound (Mach 5+) and can manoeuvre during flight, making them very difficult for air defences to track and intercept.
Russia and China have fielded hypersonic systems, and the USA and other countries are developing their own. They are one of the main areas of the current arms race.
